Malliotakis Endorsed by SBA and LBA
Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11, Staten Island-Southern Brooklyn) was endorsed for a fourth term in Congress by two of the unions representing supervisory members of the New York Police Department. The Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA), which represents 13,000 active and retired members, and the Lieutenants Benevolent Association (LBA), which represents 5,200 active and retired members, both cited Rep. Malliotakis’ longtime non-wavering support of law enforcement as key reasons for their endorsements.
President Vincent Vallelong of the SBA wrote, ”Throughout her career of public service, Rep. Malliotakis has been a steadfast supporter of law enforcement. She has been instrumental in passing legislation to provide full, lifetime funding for the World Trade Center Health Program, which ensures permanent certainty of care for afflicted 9/11 responders and survivors.
“In addition, she led efforts to restore $100 million for NYPD Counterterrorism Operations, and sponsored legislation to prevent efforts to defund law enforcement, hold states with dangerous bail policies accountable for their actions, and give judges the ability to consider dangerousness when setting bail.
“No matter which way the political winds were blowing, Rep. Malliotakis never wavered in her dedication and commitment to law enforcement. For these reasons, she earned the support of the SBA and we enthusiastically support her in her re-election bid.”
President Louis Turco of the LBA wrote, “With the current anti-police sentiment, it is imperative that police officers have a representative in Congress willing to speak up for the law enforcement community. Since Nicole Malliotakis was first elected to Congress in 2020, she has been a vocal supporter of police. She has made known her feelings about the importance of electing prosecutors, judges and legislators who believe in law and order.
“Nicole Malliotakis is the daughter of immigrants, her father from Greece and her mother a Cuban exile of the Castro dictatorship. Prior to her election to Congress, she served as a New York State Assemblywoman for five terms representing Staten Island. She was the only Hispanic Republican elected official from New York City in the State Assembly.
