Port Authority PBA Endorses Malliotakis for Fourth Term
Representative Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11, Staten Island-Southern Brooklyn) has been endorsed for a fourth term in Congress by the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association (PAPBA). The PAPBA represents over 3,700 active and retired members.
The Port Authority Police Department patrols five area airports including JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark, six bi-state bridges and tunnels, the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the PATH train, the World Trade Center, and port facilities in Staten Island and New Jersey. The PAPBA is the 24th largest police force in the nation.
In their letter of endorsement, PAPBA President Frank Conti and Legislative Director Shaun Kehoe wrote, “Throughout her life in public office, Congresswoman Malliotakis has been a strong and consistent supporter of law enforcement. She has stood with the men and women who put on the uniform each day, understanding the dangers of the job and the importance of backing those who protect our communities. Her record reflects a clear commitment to safer neighborhoods, stronger communities, and respect for the work performed by police officers and first responders.
“Congresswoman Malliotakis has constantly been an advocate for the victims of the 9/11 attacks on our nation. We need leaders who understand the challenges facing law enforcement, who recognize the sacrifices made by our officers and their families, and who are willing to fight for policies that support public safety rather than undermine it. Congresswoman Malliotakis has demonstrated that understanding time and again.”
Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis said, “I’d like to thank the men and women of the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association, their President Frank Conti, and Legislative Director Shaun Kehoe for their strong words of support. The members of the PAPBA have a unique and important job; they protect key transportation and commerce infrastructure that fuels the economic engine of our city and region.
“As was proved in 1993 with the World Trade Center bombing and by the attacks of 9/11, the facilities that members of the PAPBA protect have long been in the crosshairs of international terrorists. On any given day, they can deal with problems as diverse as a car fire on the Goethals Bridge or a plane skidding off the runway at one of our airports.
“I will always be a vocal advocate for the funding, training and resources they need to do their job. In addition, I will continue my mission to ensure that 9/11 first responders and survivors have the coverage and care they need and deserve from the World Trade Center Health Center.”
