Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis recently announced that the the city’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), will be awarding $2.3 million in federal Grants to the Richmond University Medical Center, also known to Staten Islanders as RUMC. These grants will help to provide funding for the hospital’s Head Start and Early Start programs, programs that help children from low-income families to be school-ready by the age of 5 years old.

In her announcement regarding the grants, Malliotakis said, “RUMC is such an important institution in our community, focusing on bringing health, wellness and prevention services to Staten Islanders… I’m happy to have secured this funding for the doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals at RUMC so that they can better service children and their families in the areas of health, nutrition and education,”
