In December 2021, the New York City Council passed a measure that would have allowed more than 800,000 non-citizens to vote in municipal elections, making New York City the largest city in the United States to grant non-citizens the right to vote. Republicans, including Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, filed a lawsuit to block the city’s law and won.
