Statement by Nicole Malliotakis on the Gun Violence that Plagues our Streets

Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis said,“Last night and early today gunfire erupted on the streets of Brooklyn and Queens; in 3 separate incidents that left 2 dead and 3 wounded victims in the hospital. This follows Wednesday night’s shooting that killed 2 innocent women in Brooklyn and a shooting at 11:30 am, Wednesday in the Bronx that wounded 2 men and a 4 year old girl.

“These shootings weren’t a hold-up gone wrong; each of these incidents were brazen acts by gunmen intent on killing. The violence of these acts speaks volumes to an attitude of lawlessness that Bill de Blasio seems to ignore. Mayor de Blasio should sit with the friends and families of the victims, including the 3 year-old daughter of one of the women who died on Wednesday night and explain to them what a safe city New York is.

“It’s easy for Bill de Blasio to say our city is safe as he travels in an SUV guarded by the men and women of the NYPD. But, New Yorkers, whether the friends and relatives of slain police officers or of those killed or wounded in the past two days, will have a very different story to tell.”
