Statement by Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis on the NYC Budget

Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis said, “The bloated $85.2 billion budget agreement is another slap in the face of New York City taxpayers. It’s plain to see that Mayor de Blasio and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito are addicted to higher spending and higher taxes.

“The fact that their new budget is more than 20% higher than Mayor Bloomberg’s final budget, with no signs of a commitment to a properly funded reserve fund or paying-off long term retiree health and pension liabilities, is proof of the runaway spending our city faces; a problem that will grow in leaps and bounds if Bill de Blasio is re-elected to a second term.

“With ill conceived and poorly managed policies and programs, including millions of dollars allocated to provide legal services to block the deportation of illegal aliens who are violent felons, fiscal restraint and a fiduciary responsibility to the taxpayers are clearly lacking and the city is being led down a path to a potential future fiscal crisis.”
