Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis said, “On Thursday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that it had completed an 11 day sweep that targeted at-large criminal undocumented aliens, illegal re-entrants, and immigration fugitives. Of the 114 individuals arrested, 99 of these fugitives were living in New York City. 82 of those arrested have rap sheets for crimes including rape, drug trafficking, assault, drug possession and fraud. Fifteen have pending charges and 37 have final orders of removal.

“In Bill de Blasio’s New York, criminals like this are a privileged class. If they are sitting in Rikers Island or are in the custody of the NYPD they can’t be turned over to federal authorities and, to add insult to injury, the City’s new budget allocates $27 million in taxpayer funds to pay their legal bills as they attempt to block their deportation. To call Bill de Blasio misguided is an understatement; that $27 million would have been far better spent on the homeless crisis or to retro-fit police vehicles with bullet proof glass. This insanity has to stop and when I’m Mayor, it will.”
