Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis said, “Revelations in the media concerning crime statistics in city run homeless shelters is a disturbing example of the de Blasio’s administration’s election year attempts to downplay the serious consequences of New York City’s homeless crisis. The statistics collected for the last 6 months of 2016 only report what the city terms ‘critical incidents’ at shelters while leaving out reports of other crimes. Bill de Blasio doesn’t seem to get it; the voters of New York City want full transparency in City Hall and re-categorizing how incidents in city shelters are reported falls short of true transparency. New York City taxpayers are footing the bill for homeless shelters they deserve to know what’s going on inside them.”
