High taxes and runaway spending without results, traffic and transit nightmares and a growing homeless crisis is the tale of Bill de Blasio’s City.
During Bill de Blasio’s time in office, crimes like rape, felony and misdemeanor sex crimes, identity theft, felony dangerous weapon crimes, and felony criminal mischief have all increased.
In 2016 alone, human trafficking cases have increased 50%.
Additionally, penalties for crimes like public urination and littering have been reduced and 750,000 open warrants are being tossed out, sending the wrong message to offenders and disrupting the quality of life for the rest of us.
I oppose Mayor de Blasio’s plan to close Rikers Island and build jails across the five boroughs. The existing prison complex can be modernized and reformed to be a more humane environment that is safer for both inmates and officers.
The case backlog in the justice system that has led to delays needs to be rectified to provide the accused with the right to a speedy trial as protected under the Constitution of the United States.
