2013 GOP Nominee, Deputy Mayor & MTA Chair/CEO: Assemblywoman understands city’s problem/knows solution
Joe Lhota, the 2013 Republican and Conservative Party nominee for Mayor and Deputy Mayor for Operations in Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s administration, today endorsed Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis in her campaign to retire Bill de Blasio. Lhota described Assemblywoman Malliotakis as “the only real Republican in the race and the candidate who truly understands the problems of our City and the solutions needed to fix them.
Lhota served a variety of positions in the 8-year administration of Mayor Rudy Giuliani including: Finance Commissioner, Budget Director and Deputy Mayor. He also served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and is currently a senior executive at a major NYC medical center.
Joe Lhota said, “After nearly 4 years of the de Blasio administration, New York City desperately needs a new Mayor and I firmly believe that Nicole is the person for the job. She is the only real Republican in the race and a candidate that truly understands the problems of our city and the solutions needed to fix them. Now in her 4th term in the Assembly, Nicole has fought tirelessly for the people of Staten Island and for every taxpayer is our city and state.
“Nicole is a common sense, no nonsense member of the legislature who is a proven tax cutter, a strong supporter of our neighborhoods, our schools and the NYPD. She has been a fearless critic of Bill de Blasio’s reckless tax and spend mentality, his anti-Charter School agenda and his bull-headed support of the destruction of City records. The lawsuit that Nicole and Assemblyman Ron Castorino (R-SI) brought against the de Blasio administration’s cynical anti-transparency plan to destroy the background information on the holders of NYC’s municipal ID program (IDNYC) is reason enough to vote for her.”
“Assemblywoman Malliotakis’ reputation as a tireless campaigner along with her tenacity as a first-generation American who understands the values that immigrants bring to our City, her Greek and Cuban heritage and her knowledge of the issues will serve her well as she campaigns throughout the 5 boroughs of our City. Nicole’s opposition to red tape and regulation, and her instinctive belief that small businesses are the path to the American Dream will stand in stark contrast to Mayor de Blasio’s record of penalizing the small businesses of our city and ultimately, the hardworking New Yorkers they employ.
“I am proud to endorse Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis for Mayor of the City of New York and I hope all those who supported me in 2013 will join her campaign as we fight to take back City Hall.”
Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis said, I am proud to have the endorsement of Joe Lhota; a dedicated public servant and the Republican nominee for Mayor in 2013. when it comes to the nuts and bolts of operating our city, there are few people who have the knowledge and experience of Joe Lhota and I thank him for his endorsement .and plan to seek counsel from as this race progresses.”
