Bay Ridge Lawmakers Request World Trade Center Lighting for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, Congressman Michael Grimm, State Senator Marty Golden, Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny, and City Councilmember Vincent Gentile have submitted a letter to Patrick Foye, Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, requesting that One World Trade Center be lit in gold sometime during September to promote Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The cause has generated a groundswell of support throughout Brooklyn. Bay Ridge Cares, a local non-profit organization, has developed a “Go Gold Bay Ridge” program which will involve exhibiting gold ribbons, gold bows, and gold lighting throughout the neighborhood. Although a request to light the Empire State Building has been denied, the Coney Island Parachute Jump has agreed to “go gold” as part of the effort.
